The commune of Moncenisio (formerly named Ferrera) is situated a few kilometres from the Vanoise park, near the French border.
It lies in the Susa Valley, at 460 m. above sea level, and is the highest commune in the whole Cenischia Valley.
Moreover, it is the smallest commune in Piedmont and one of the smallest throughout Italy. In fact, It has less than 50 residents but the number of people that actually lives in the village is still less than 50.
This picturesque village, whose centre consists of a few houses grouped near the Cenischia stream and the parish church of Saint George, keeps up with its farming and rural traditions.
In the summer Moncenisio offers its tourists relaxing nature trails or more demanding hikes.
In this village there is a mountain climate, with harsh long winters which could last up to 6 months. Summers are quite cool, although during the hottest days temperatures may reach up to 30° C.
For those who come and visit us, we strongly recommend to visit:
- The village centre with its fountains and sundials;
- The parish church of San Giorgio which dates back to the VII century;
- The votive chapels;
- The wood-burning oven and the mill;
