Moncenisio has less than 50 residents and is therefore one of the smallest communes throughout Italy.
Its old name, until 1940, was Ferrera.

Together with the communes of Novalesa, Venaus, Giaglione and Mompantero, Moncenisio lies in Val Cenischia, a valley lying sideways to the Susa Valley.
